YAGALO album presentation

On 28 November in Chisinau club “The Black Elephant” “Cuibul” Musical Society is presenting a solo album of МС Vasile and “Yagalo” orchestra from Romania.
In autumn 2002 “Yagalo” orchestra visited Chisinau to record several songs for the Zdob si zdub album “450 Sheep”.
It was Zdob si Zdub vocalist Roman Yagupov’s initiative to record solo album of “Yagalo” in studio. The record was accomplished in ADM Studio during one day and with the help of just one bottle of brandy.
This is the first album of 69-years-old singer Vasile Dinu (aka MC Vasile) from Romanian village of Marsha, published on CD. MC Vasile has the strongest voice in the region of South Danube and unique singing technique.
There is no one important event in a man’s life on Balkans (christening party, wedding party or funeral) which could be done without “lautars” (fiddlers) presence.
The forefathers of “Yagalo” played at Romanian princes’ courts, and “Yagalo” itself was performing for dictator Ceausescu.
“Yagalo” repertory includes the most beautiful and archaic songs of Romanian folk music. These are lyrical “doynas” arising passionate love and anguish, historical ballades, wedding songs and inflammatory melodies.
The “Lautars” from “Yagalo” are the keepers of musical tradition that is 300-years old and their musical technique and repertory is passed on from generation to generation. The son of “Taraf de Haidouks” founder Culae – Tzagoi and the son of virtuosic violinist Caliu from the same orchestra – Robert George play in “Yagalo”.
The musicians from Zdob si Zdub will take part in the concert of 28 of November too. They will perform the songs they recorded together earlier.
“Yagalo’s” album will be sold in Moldova published by Cuibul SRM, in Ukraine by Moon Records, in Romania by A&A Records, in Russia by СD Land Records, in Slovakia by Forza Мusic.

450 Sheep in Russia

On the November in Saint-Petersburg (“Staryi Dom” Club) and 26th of November in Moscow “B2” Club “Zdob si Zdub” will give performances promoting the album “450 Sheep”.
“Zdob si Zdub” have already toured Central and Eastern Europe with this album and won first places in TV and radio station’s musical tops. The album appeared in Russia at the end of summer and contained 12 tracks, 3 of which are in Russian. The heading hit “Everybody in the casa mare” was recorded together with Garik Sukachyov and we are expecting to meet him during our show in “B2” Club.
The album “450 Sheep” is both eclectic and conceptual. There is no place for pseudo-folk music in it. The album was created using a diachronic approach – it is a mixture of rough guitar sound, scratches and hip-hop and archaic folk music. The “Zdubs” turned to authentic music of Romanian “lautars’” (gypsy musicians) and filled the album with mystic atmosphere and sacred meaning.
It was back in 2000 during the Christmas night when the “Zdubs” got acquainted with an orchestra of Romanian gypsies “lautars” – “Yagalo” form the village of “Marsa”. This village keeps the oldest musical traditions of South Romania.
Lautar’s musical technique and repertory is passed on from generation to generation. There is no one important event in man’s life on Balkans (christening party, wedding party or funeral) which could be done without “lautars’” presence.
The forefathers of “Yagalo” played at Romanian princes’ courts, and “Yagalo” itself was performing for dictator Ceausescu. The 69-year-old vocalist of the orchestra – Vasile Dinu (called “MC Vasile” by the “Zdubs” for his ability to “cast a spell” on the audience) has the strongest voice in the region of South Danube and a repertory of 50 songs.
As the results of cooperation with the orchestra 3 songs were recorded – two of them entered the “450 Sheep” album: an old folk song “Cuculet” (the cuckoo) and the Romanian version of the “Zdub’s” “Everybody in the casa mare” song. The video clip “Everybody in the casa mare” won the first place in the hit parade of Slovak music channel “Musicbox TV” and the “Best Ethno” statuette on the ceremony of Music Awards MTV Romania.
During the show in “B2” Club there will also take place the presentation of solo debut album by “Yagalo”. The album was recorded in Chisinau on Roman Yagupov’s initiative.
“Yag” – means fire in the Gypsy language. On the 26th of November fiery “lautars” from “Yagalo” and MC Vasile will kindle the “Zdob si Zdub” show.
Traditional brynza (sheep milk cheese) and domestic wine will wait for you on the entrance. The scenery and video on the trips that inspired Zdob si Zdub will introduce you to the atmosphere of “450 Sheep”!
